In 2014, the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee (MJC) Phlebology was founded in Brussels by the UEMS Sections of Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Radiology, and Dermatology. The inaugural meeting was held in April 2015 in Brussels, followed by another significant gathering in March 2017 in Paris to launch the European Board of Phlebology (EBPh).

This initiative marked the first official recognition of Phlebology as a multidisciplinary specialty by the UEMS MJCP and EBPh. On 21 October 2017, the European Training Requirements (ETRs) in Phlebology were introduced in Brussels and subsequently approved by the UEMS Advisory Board and General Assembly. The ETRs were later published in the October 2019 issue of International Angiology and endorsed by the International Union of Phlebology as a comprehensive educational program.

The 1st European Congress of the European Board of Phlebology was held in Modena, Italy, from 7-9 November 2019. Looking ahead, the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee of Phlebology-European Board of Phlebology will convene during the XXII Congress of the Italian College of Phlebology in Siena, Italy, from 26-28 October 2023.

Currently, 50 European Public, Private, and University Training Centers are accredited in Phlebology by MJCP-EBPh, predominantly located in France, Italy, and the Netherlands. To date, 211 European Phlebologists, 137 trainers, and 74 trainees have been awarded recognized diplomas in Phlebology, totaling 250 diplomas.

Our collaborative efforts include workshops and educational programs with the French Society of Phlebology and the Italian College of Phlebology. We also maintain partnerships with UEMS MJC in Wound Healing, UEMS European Junior Doctors Association, and the European Venous Forum, reflecting our commitment to advancing education and training in Phlebology across Europe.
