MULTIDISCIPLINARY JOINT COMMITTEE OF PHLEBOLOGY (MJCP) and EUROPEAN BOARD OF PHLEBOLOGY (EBP)
The MJCP and its board, the EBP, are the only bodies officially accredited by the UEMS to organise and supervise theoretical and practical training in phlebology in Europe, and to issue UEMS-certified European diplomas.
Accredited centers
The MJCP itself has accredited phlebology training centres in various European countries. These accreditations, also validated by the UEMS, are of different types:
NRTCP (National Reference Training Centre of Phlebology) and ETCP (European Training Centres of Phlebology) are the only centres approved to provide theoretical and practical training with authorisation to organise examinations for UEMS-diplomas in phlebology.
These centres may be autonomous, or may be associated with each other, or with ERTCP “European Rotating Training Centres”, from the same or different European countries.
For more information about the accredited centres, please click here.
Training Requirements
The teaching provided must comply with the requirements of the European Training Requirements (ETR) document and the syllabuses. This teaching and the organisation of examinations for UEMS diplomas are under the supervision of the MJCP/EBP.
Competence Degrees Diplomas
Two categories of courses and diplomas are available:
- The “Competence Degree of Phlebology” (CDP), which covers the basics of phlebology and is aimed at non-specialists and/or non-initiates in this discipline.
- The “Competence Degrees in Phlebology Procedures” (CDPP), which consists of advanced modules designed for specialists already involved in this discipline, or practitioners already authorised to practice phlebology.
Competence degrees are not
specialty diplomas and national rules must be respected for the practice of the
discipline in each country.
Completed modules in place
At present, France and Italy have set up comprehensive modules for the award of UEMS-certified phlebology diplomas. These modules are operational and open to candidates from all European and associated countries.
TWO OPTIONS - THREE CHOICES
The “NRTCP IPV-PARIS/SFP” centre created by the Société Française de Phlébologie and the Institut de Pathologie Vasculaire (IPV)-Paris 5, has set up modules solely for advanced training (CDPP), and offers two options, in two possible languages (French and English, and partially Spanish):
- e-learning courses only
- e-learning courses + practical training.
Only the second option is eligible for the UEMS-certified CDPP exams.
The CDPP modules on offer are:
- Ultrasound-guided Sclerotherapy
- Endovenous Thermal Ablation
- Phlebectomy

Other Training Offers
Several organisations and scientific societies offer rich and interesting theoretical and practical training courses that could complement the offerings of certain European UEMS training centres or meet the needs of certain individual practitioners.
However, the training courses listed below, even if some of them have MJCP-accredited centres, are not currently authorised to issue official UEMS-certified phlebology diplomas.
